Steffi Berkowitz founded Berkowitz Civility Group in 2012 after a 40 year career path that combined mediation, education, speech-language pathology, and audiology. As a personal growth coach and conflict communication analyst she strives to reeducate adults and children about conversation guidelines to move past anxious feelings and deal with conflict reluctance, controversial issues and toxic environments.
She presented at over 200 conferences and training seminars—most recently at the International Ombudsman Association. Additionally, Steffi was awarded Florida Teacher Of The Year and Educator Of The Year, and, while teaching in Beijing, she was honored by the Chinese Association of Medical Science with a medal for research in Aural Communication. She taught at the University of Miami Graduate School of Education; served as Government Liaison and Chairperson of the Affiliations Committee, as a member of Mediators Beyond Borders; was Executive Director of Special Education at Capistrano Unified School District; and held the position of Ombudsman/Mediator for the Capistrano Unified School District. She is a Florida Supreme Court Subject Matter Specialist for Circuit Civil Mediation Training Programs.
When Steffi isn't coaching, she can be found writing, singing, or enjoying nature. She loves exploring the California’s many beaches and the woodland areas of Northern California. You may have heard her sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Rams-Dolphin football game but more likely you can find her on the tennis court, playing tennis aware that she has little to no chance of playing at Wimbledon.
